An artificial tooth root which is placed into the jaw and hold a replacement tooth or bridge is the definition of dental implant. Dental implants are an ideal option for the healthy people with good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to extensive dental caries, failures of root canal treatment, periodontal diseases, tooth injuries, or some other reasons.

Dental implants are actually stronger, more durable and more tooth-saving than traditional tooth replacement because implants do not rely on neighboring teeth for support. Therefore dental implants offer a permanent solution to tooth loss. It may be used in conjunction with other restorative procedures for maximum effectiveness.

Single implant can serve to support a crown replacing a single missing tooth.
Implants can be used to support a dental bridge for replacement of multiple missing teeth.
Implants can be used with denture to increase stability and reduce gum tissue irritation.

There is no guaranty that an implant procedure will be successful but many studies have shown a five-year success rate of 95% for lower jaw implants and 90% for upper jaw implants. The success rate of lower jaw implants (especially lower posterior region) is slightly higher than the upper jaw implants because bone density in the lower jaw is more dense than the upper jaw. Most implants are very successful but crowns, bridges or dentures that the implants support can be damaged just like normal teeth – for example – a result of an accident, break or chip. The crowns, bridges or dentures are easily replaced, providing the implant underneath is not damaged.

The failure causes are often related to the failure in the osseointegration process. Poor position of implants, smoking, poor oral hygiene are the major causes of failure. The proper treatment plan is the most important process for the successful of treatment by the dentist team. Anyway maintaining good oral hygiene by thoroughly brushing and flossing the teeth, follow the specific advice on caring the implants from dentists, regular check-up and take x-ray images each year will prolong the life-time of implants.

“Whitening” refers to restoring a tooth.s surface color by removing dirt and debris. Therefore any products that cleans-like a toothpaste-is considered a whitener

“Bleaching” is permitted to be used only when the teeth can be whitened beyou their natural color. This applies strictly to products that contain bleach- typically hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. Tooth staining comes from many causes : age, inborn tooth color, tooth translucency and thinness, eating habits, smoking habits, drugs/chemicals, grinding, trauma, etc.

When dental decay destroy tooth structure until exposed the pulp, only tooth filling is not enough. The root canal treatment is one of treatment alternatives for non-vital tooth. However, not every non-vital tooth can do root canal treatment. The tooth need to have adequate remaining tooth structure for restoring with fixed prosthesis. Nevertheless, the tooth has to be extracted.

Destructive tooth that has little tooth structure left and cannot be restored has to be extracted. Due to the fact that destructive tooth can be sources of infection into the space in your face. Normally, tooth extraction is the last treatment option that no other option can be treated. However, in this time, there is a dental implant, the recent dental innovation, that can be substitute the space of missing tooth.

Tooth decay is a consequence of bacteria destroying the tooth. If it destroy extensively, it can experience you some tooth hypersensitivity and tooth filling is necessary. The filling procedure is removing the dental caries and filled the cavity with filling materials which have so many kind of them.

The main causes of calculus is dental plaque. Dental plaque is a biofilm formed from bacteria in your mouth. Dental plaque can be removed by brushing your teeth daily. However, if some area of dental plaque is not be disrupted, it will be calcified and become calculus. When it became calculus, you cannot brush it out by yourself. The only way to remove the calculus is scaling and root planing by dentist.

Dental prosthesis is the substitution for the missing teeth or extensive tooth destruction which the filling is not adequate.

There are 2 major types of prosthesis which are

  1. Fixed Prosthesis –  veneer, crown, bridge – Veneers and crowns are for major loss of tooth surfaces or as the final restoration of root canal treated tooth. Therefore, bridges substitute the space of missing tooth which normally only use for a single tooth missing. The fixed type is comfortably use but you need to take good care of oral hygiene.
  2. Removable Prosthesis – metal/acrylic removable partial denture, completed denture – After you have losing your teeth, the removable denture is necessary for replacing the edentulous area for the better oral health. According to removability, the dentures should wear only daytime and take off to clean after meals and also at night.
